WESTPORT HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

At a special meeting of this committee, held on Tuesday evening, Dr Giles was in the chair. The other members present were Messrs Harris, Mimro, Eeid, Powell, Munson, and Tyler. Mr Harris, as Treasurer, read his quarterly report on the income and expenditure of the Hospital. The statement showed an expenditure for the quarter of £278 17s yd as against receipts of £276 12s Gd. The balance in the hands of the Treasurer on 31st March was shown to be £S7 9s lOd, and the balance of the subsidy due by Government £133 13s Gd, making in all £221 3s 4d as the amount of the funds at the disposal of the Committee during the next three months. The amount collected by the existing Committee since taking office was £139 19s 3d, and the total subscriptions to date, including the amount handed over by the Provisional Committee, £5lO lGs 9d.

Mr Muxeo remarked that, from the Treasurer's report, it would appear that the amount of money required to be publicly subscribed per year, at the present rate of expense, was £350. Mr Harris said that was the amount, and he saw no difficulty in the way of collecting it. Mr Muxsdxwas of opinion that, of that amount, £IOO-might be raised in Westport. Mr Rum remarked that subscriptions to that amount would be required only for twelve months after the end of June next; and it was agreed to defer for a month or two any special or active canvass for subscriptions. Mr Munro intimated that some ladies and gentlemen were willing to give a concert in aid of the funds of the institution, and were now practising for that purpose. It might be arranged that the concert should take place in a fortnight, and the ladies would do their utmost to dispose of the tickets, but, as there was no organised choral society, he proposed that Messrs Harris, Tyler, and Eeid, with himself, should, on behalf of the Committee, make such arrangements as might be necessary, apart from the actual programme of the concert. The proposition was agreed to. It was intimated by the Treasurer that a subscription box had been presented by Mr George Somner, to be placed in the Hospital; and a vote of thanks to Mr Somner was recorded. For the next meeting of the Committee, the iirst Tuesday in May was appointed.
