A telegram in our last number from our Wellington correspondent reported that " the s.s. Beautiful Star was sanded up on the bar of Porirua harbor." We notice by Wanganui papers that the Star left that river for 3)unedin on the 3rd, and that on the same day there was a heavy gale along the coast, doing considerable damage on shore, and stopping shipping movements. It is possible that the Star took shelter in Porirna, and got banked in. She had on board several passengers from Westport. The schooner Amateur arrived yesterday from Mohikinui, bringing a few tons of coal and two boats, one built at Mohikinui, and the other belongiug to the harbor-master there.
The cutter Satellite, recently wrecked near the Totara, is now inside that river, repaired aud ready for sea. She is now named the Joseph Paul. The s.s. Wallabi left Wanganui at 8 o'clock on Wednesday evening, and arrived at the upper wharf at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The steamer Wanganui has been chosen by the Government as the tender to the Duke of Edinburgh.
The Government p.s. Sturt put into Wanganui on Saturday, having sustained some damage to her machinery.
CHARLESTON. April 9. The steamer Waipara, from Southern ports, arrived in harbor on Wednesday at 5 a.m., discha-ged about ten tons of general cargo, and left for Westport same tide. On Thursday morning the Waipara returned from Westport, took in several passengers and a quantity of luggage, and left the same tide for Southern ports. The Nile, schooner, from Hokitika, with timber, &c, appeared off the port in the morning, but the wind was unfavorable for i.—, _.. ai„ tuc course of the day tho cutter Lizzie, from Taranaki, with a cargo of produce, and the schooner Ann, from Greymouth, with a general cargo, also arrived off the port, all three vessels arriving in harbor on the evening's tide. The Ann discharged cargo, made ready for sea, and sailed for Greymouth this morning early. Tho other vessel in all probability will sail this evening. It is understood that the Constant has changed hands, Mr John Hay, it is said, having purchased her from Mr Suisted.
