WESTPOBT. HIGH WATER. This Day ... 11.50 a.m., 12 14 p.m. To-morrow 12.40 a.m., 1.8 p.m. ABBIYALB. March 31—Murray, s.s,, M'Gillivray, from Greymouth. J. YV. Kirby, agent. Lyttelton, p.s., from Nelson. N. Edwards and Co. agents. Three Friends, schooner, from Brighton. DEPABTrBES. March 30—Wallabi, s.s., for Greymouth. March 31—Murray, s.s., for Nelson and Wellington. Lyttelton, p.s., for Greymouth. IMPOSTS. Per schooner Three Friends, from Brighton —1 tank, Bank of New South Wales ; 1 cask black sand, Bank of New Zealand. Per Lyttelton, from Nelson—lß cases, 9 bales, 2 packages, N. Edwards and Co; 4 sacks malt, 1 pocket hops, Leslie; 1 dozen buckets, Field; 1 parcel, Bishop; 1 do, Thompson ; 1 case boots, Flory and Co ; 2 parcels, Leslie. The s.s. Wallabi, after discharging her ■cattle, proceeded to Greymouth on Tuesday ■ evening. It appears that she originally left Wanganui for this port on Sunday -week, at Tl a.m., but, shortly after crossing the bar she 'encountered a strong south-west gale, and at •once put about, returning to Wanganui at about 10 am. Captain Daniels, with his usual skill, succeeded in bringing all the cattle safe back. The steamer Kennedy was expected to have returned to Westport from Greymouth, but she proceeded direct to Nelson, disappointing a number of passengers who were waiting for her, but who proceeded on the following d.iy by the Murray. Her Hokitika cargo was transhipped to the Charles Edward. The lease of the Nelson wharf for twelve months was put up to auction at the Crown Lands Office on Monday at the upset price of £SOO. The Mail states that only two bids were made, and it was ultimately knocked down to Mr Thomas Scott for £540. The sum paid last year was £I3OO, but it did not prove a remunerative speculation to the lessee. A considerable reduction has been made for the present year in the wharfage and storage rates. This will account to some extent for the falling off in the price realised.
