A clergyman who ia evidently not posted in maritime matters, some time since preached to his congregation on the subject of hope being like an anchor to the soul, &c, and gave the following explanation: "My friends, I suppose you all know what an anchor is. It is a kind of a thing to get a ship under a good headway with." A writer dwelling upon the importance of small things says, "that he always takes notice, even of a straw, especially if there happen to be a sherry cobbler at the end of it."
