W. Kirby, agent. Waipara, b.b., Baseand, from Greymouth. J. C. Paton, agent. Alert, ketch, M'Donald, from Manukau. D. Girdwood and Co., agents. DEPAETtfBES. March 24—Bruce, p.s., for Nelson. Murray, s.b., for Nelson. PASSENGEE LIST. Per Murray, from Hoklitika and Grey mouth—The Bishop of Nelson, Messrs Paul, Falla, Smith, Sunley, and 5 others. Per Murray, for Nelson—Mr Paul, Mr Falla, Mrs and Miss Gillion. Per Waipara, from Hokitika—Mr Hughes, Mr Russell; 4in steerage. IMPOSTS. Per Waipara, from Hokitika—l bundle buckets, Clarke; with cargo for Charleston and Brighton. Per Murray, from Greymouth and Hokitika—2 casks lemonade, Thomas ; 2 horses, order. Per Murray, for Nelson—2 horses, Paul; 30 empty casks, Falla. The steamers Bruce, Waipara, and Murray arrived in port on the afternoon tide on Wednesday, and. after a very short delay, the Bruce and the Murray sailed for Nelson. During their passage up from Greymouth, a very heavy sea was experienced, and the surf on the beach at present indicates that there must have been, out at sea, much more severe weather than has even been experienced on shore. The ketch Alert arrived in the Buller on Tuesday. She is from Manukau, and was bound for Greymouth, but on arriving off that port she received orders to proceed to Hokitika. She was unable to enter that river, and, heavy weather coming on, she ran for shelter to Westport. She had on board a number of returned diggers from the Thames Goldfield, and they have landed here. The s.s. Kennedy left Nelson for Westport on Tuesday morning, but has not yet arrived, being, no doubt, detained by the head wind and heavy weather prevailing. During the same month last year, some of the Nelson vessels were three weeks in reaching Westport. The tender of Mr E. P. Pearce, Dunedin, for the erection of a light-house on the Nuggets for the sum of £2577, has been accepted. The alleged sale of the s.s. Otago at Melbourne, to Messrs Spenoe Brothers, is contradicted. It is believed that two packets, named respectively the Free Selectors and the Gresford, both bound from Sydney for Jarvis Bay, have foundered during the late gales and all hands lost. Neither of the vessels have been heard of since they left Sydney, and portions of wreck have been found along the coast. We understand that Captain Black, of the schooner Crest of the Wave, has been appointed to the command of the barque Prospector, which will sail in a few days for Valparaiso. The barque's former commander, Captain Thomson, who proceeded in the barque William Cargill to Napier, has been appointed to the charge of that vessel. Capt. Duncan, who had the William Cargill built and brought her out, remains ashore for a time.— Otago Daily Times.
