The s.s. Waipara sailed for Charleston on Tuesday morning's tide, landed twenty tons of cargo there, remained an hour, and re-en-tered the Buller on the same tide. At midnight she sailed forGreymouth and Ilokitika, having on board a number of visitors to the Grey races. The s.s. Beautiful Star arrived in port on Tuesday, at midnight. She left Wanganui at one o'clock on Monday, passed Cape Farewell at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, and arrived off the Bidler at 6 p.m. She arrived at Wanganui at 9.30 on Friday morning. She left Dunedin on Saturday, the Gth, at 5 p.m., and arrived at Lyttelton at 9 a.m., on Sunday ; left on Monday at 7 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; left again at noon on Thursday, and proceeded under easy steam for Wanganui. Fine weather was experienced throughout. She brings a general cargo, cattle, and sheep. Mr Bishop, the manager of the N.Z.S.N. Co., has returned to Wellington from Melbourne, and the result of his visit to that city is that Messrs M'Meckan and Blackwood intend that the agency of their vessels shall be retained by the N.Z.S.N. Company, and that their vessels will be employed in transhipping goods and passengers to those ports at which the boats of the latter do not call. 260 bales in all were saved out of the 2500 •which were on board the Ida Zieglcr at the time she was lost. The wreck has entirely disappeared. It is understood that the Galatea will visit Nelson Bay, auchoring, of course, in the outer anchorage. The three masted schooner Little Fred is on the shore about ten miles south of Kaipara. All hands arc safe, but the vessel will become a total wreck. The fine schooner Fiery Cross has been totally lost at Mercury Bay. The Fiery Cross wa3 the property of Mr George Short, and was one of the finest vessels trading out of Auckland. The vessel was insured in the New Zealand Insurance Company, and the cargo, it is believed, was also insured in the same office. The Fiery Cross has been lying at Mercury Bay for several days, and on Saturday last had about 40,000 feet sawn timber on board for Canterbury. The Fiery Cross dragged her anchors, the sea at the time milking a clean breach over her, and drifted on the rocks at the entrance of Mangarie river, where she was left high and dry, with loss of keel, &e. When the Tauranga left Mercury Bay, the tide was flowing and ebbing through her, and she was likely to go to pieces with the next easterly breeze.
