H. M. S. GALATEA.
As this fine vessel is shortly about to visit our waters, a description of her will, no doubt, prove interesting to our readers. She was built at Woolwich and launched in 1859. Her length over all is 317 ieet, breadth 50 feet, horse-power 800, tonnage, 3227. Her speed, under steam, at the measured mile, when new, was 13 knots, the indicated horse-power being 3515. She carries the following armament, viz:—on the main deck, 18 guns, 10-inch, 86 cwt, and 4 guns, 10 lnch-6| tons; on the quarter-deck, 2 guns, rifled, 64-pounders; on the forecastle, 2 guns, rifled, 64-pounders. The 6£ ton guns throw a shot of 115 lbs and a large doubla shell weighing 156 lbs., with a bursting charge of 12 lbs powder. Her draught of water, with three months provisions on board is, aft, 22 feet 7 inches, forward 21 feet 8 inches ; the height of the foremost port above the water-lino is 12 feet 9 inches ; the height of the mid-dle-port, 10 feet 6| inches ; and that of the after-port, 12 feet 5 inches. She can stow 700 tons of coals in her
