Packebs' Puese : Janet, 1; Sulky, 2 ; Butcher's Boy, 3. Town Plate : Plying Jib, 1; Backbiter, 2; a bad third. BUTCHEES' PtJBSE : Cossack, 1 ; Okair, 2. Htjbdle-Race : Don Pedro, 1 ; Native, 2. Harry Bloomfield, the rider of Gamester, was thrown at the second hurdle, and was killed on the spot. ♦
LATEST FROM WANGANUI. FIGHTING AT THE FRONT. SIX MEN KILLED and TWELVE WOUNDED. EIGHT HAU-HAUS KILLED. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.') (feom oue OWN COBBESPONDENT.) Wellington, Monday. Colonel Whitmore's force surprised the rebels, camped at Otoria, on the 13th inst. They fought for several hours, when the rebels escaped, leaving baggage provisions, arms, saddles, and tools, behind. The bodies of eight dead Maoris were seen. Our loss was six men killed, and twelve wounded.
