COMMERCIAL.

Dunedin.—The Daily Times of the Sth inst. reports:— The busbaes of the week just closed has not been remarkable for animation, the dulnes experienced prior to the receipt of the mails giving place to but a moderate amount of briskness, advices received affecting the market in but 1 ttle degree, and inducing nothing in the way of speculative business. The market for breadstuff's has not shown any alteration, and flour can only be reported as moving in small parcels for current wants, at unchanged prices—no outside demand being felt. The grain market will doubtless be more active as the new crop comes forward ; in the meantime, there is a demand for old wheats for grinding purposes, the quantity of which available is very small, and an active enquiry for old oats for shipment, up to 2s. lOd. being freely given for good parcels. In liquids generally, there has been rather a slacV trade. Advices respecting spirits not having affected the markets to the expected extent, Hennessy's brandies cannot be reported as quitting importers hands at over Bs. though there is a disposition to look for better rates. Genevas have been placed at 13s to 13s 6d; and whiskies of the chief Scotch brands, at 5s to 5s 6d; except in genevas, as noted, there has been little doing in case goods. In provisions, nothing but butter commands any attention. The high prices ruling in Melbourne have caused the shipment of all the spare parcels, and there will likely be a considerable falling off in the quantity coming forward from Northern ports. Sugars are increasingly scarce, considerable difficulty being found in executing orders for good descriptions, prices ruling higher. Teas have had a little attention, and holders continue to make sales of good to fine congous at well-maintained rates. A better enquiry has been noticeable for candles and kerosene, though without any improvement in price.
