FIRST STEAMER FOE NELSON. TiHE fast and favorite screw steamer MUEEAY, Thomas Holmes, Commander, Will be despatched for the above port, on SUNDAY MOENIKG, 24th INST, At 7 o'clock. For freight or passage apply to J. W. KIRBY, On Board. TO THE ELECTORS. To Messes Siieahan, Bbowk, and othehs. GENTLEMEN— I beg to acknowledge your kindness in proposing me at the recent Nomination for the Election of a Member of the Provincial Council, and also to thank those Gentlemen who did me the courtesy of voting for me. The wish I expressed to one or two of my friends, previous to the election, was that I should not be nominated or contest the election, if any other qualified elector Avas nominated in whom even a portion of the electors expressed their confidence. I was not desirous of entering the Council at present, as I believe, under existing circumstances, very little good can be effected by any West Coast Members, though it should be their duty to lay the West Coast grievances fully before the Council, as upon those debates will depend in a certain measure the fate of your contemplated County Bill. The question of Separation should be agitated until it is achieved, as under your present limited and unjust representation in the Council, you cannot expect roads, wharves, or moneys, though you are the largest contributors to the exchequer. Accept my best thanks for your kindness. I remain, Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant John Ceate. Nelson, 20th January, ISG9. M.U.J.0.0.F. Ig»w Ms. LOYAL WESTPORT LODGE, r* No. 5562.
