Our present issue is accompanied by a supplement of twelve columns, containing a full account of the sports and races which have been, locally, the great events of the Christmas holidays. The account is substantially the same as has been published from day to day, but many of our subscribers may desire to have it in a complete form. "We luavebeen obliged to slightly abbreviate the report for the first day, and have

not been ahle to extend the notice of | the first day's races, but the whole is, I no doubt, sufficiently lengthy as it is. At the meeting held at the Empire Hotel on Thursday evening, at which the stakes for the Races were paid, with the exception of those against which protests were entered, a subscription list was opened by Mr Trimble for the benefit of the poor fellow, Henry Hopwood, who met 5N ith the accident on the ground, and who now lies at the hospital. The amount of £ll 17s was collected from the various winners and Stewards, a list of whom we publish in another column, and we understand that the sum has since been considerably augmented. The members of the Charleston Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., spent a pleasant evening on New-year's Eve. The change of chairs having taken place the previous evening, a banquet in honor of the occasion was provided by Host Joliffe in a style that was a credit to the house. P. G. Collings occupied the chair, supported by F. M'Parland, N.G., and Secretary Hennelly ; the vice-chair being occupied by J. Cunningham. P.G. The usual toasts being given and responded to, mirth and song prevailed till a late hour. The officers for the ensuing term are F. M'Parland, N.G-.; Chas. Mirfin, V.G-.; E. Spier, E.S.; W. J. Moore, G.M.; P. G. Collings, P.S. and L.M.; and E. Price, Warden. The installation of officers of the Charleston Kilwinning Lodge took place on Monday at the Masonic and Oddfellows' Hotel. The Herald says: —There was a good muster of the craft, including a few visitors from Westport and Brighton. The following officers were duly installed:— Brother Treadwell, R.W.M.; Brother Isaacs, S.M. ; Brother Weitzell, who was absent, was elected D.M.; Brother Van, S.W.; Brother Neale, treasurer and J.W.; Brother Sharky, S.D.; Brother Nahr, J.D. ; Brother Cunningham, Tyler. After the business of the lodge was over, the brethren proceeded to the European Hotel, dressed in regalia, where a sumptuous banquet was prepared.
