It appears that the people of "Wanganui have formed a committee to superintend measures for the defence of the town. They propose to enclose a large space of the town as a citadel of refuge for the protection 'of the women and children, and subscriptions are asked to defray the cost —some £4oo—of doing so. "We are informed that the work has been commenced, and that other measures of defence will be taken outside this enclosure, when it has been completed. It appears that Lieut-Colonel Herrick, the new commander, according to orders, abandoned Woodall's Eedoubt, but by our latest advices that position has been re-occupied.
