The steamer Murray returned to port yesterday from Nelson. No intimation of her departure from Nelson was made by the Telegraph Department. If this were an exceptional circumstance, notice might not be taken of it ; but it is not exceptional. It is more the rule than the exception for the Nelson telegraph office to neglect forwarding intimations of the arrival and departure of steamers. From other ports with which Westport is not connected by business interests, shipping telegrams are received regularly. From Nelson, with which West port is intimately connected, they are received most irregularly, the vessels often arriving before the telegrams. Yet we believe that there are four employes in the Nelson office, "with two messengers. If they cannot make arrangements with the Harbor Master, as is done here, they should be made to make ' them.
The s.s. Waipara was to leave Hokitika for Westport and other ports, last evening, with a full cargo.
BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.
