Fkntan Trials in Canada.—The trial of "Whelau for the murder of Mr D'Arcy M'Gee appears to have been conducted with all the circumstance befitting a great State prosecution. A regiment was encamped round the gaol, the prisoner was marched up. to the court in square, and a guard of twenty men. served with twenty-five rounds of ball cartridge a-piece, received him every night. The guard was needed as much to protect Whelau from his enemies as to hinder him from communication with his friends. Between the two, Ottawa was in a state of extraordinary excitement during the entire progress of the trial. Whelau wasfoundguilty, and sentenced co bo executed on December 10, The projected Fenian picnic at Montreal in aid of "Whelau has been prc■nbitcd by the authorities.
