THE EDUCATION RATE.
(To the Editor of the Westport Times and Charleston A.rgus.)
Sib, —I have been asked the following question, and have sougut from high authority a solution, but without a satisfactory answer. Therefore, for myself and others, I respectfully submit the matter to you, hoping you will deem it of sufficient importance to notice, and will kindly solve it. Without further remark I submit it to you for consideration and reply, viz : Under what Act of Council the Superintendent is empowered to declare a Groldfield an Educational District ? By this being pointed out, the opinion held by some, that the rate is illegally collected and an arbitrary exercise of power without legal authority, would be satisfactorily refuted.— I am. Sir, yours &c. EtfQUIItEB. "Westport, Dec. 9. [With every respect for " Enquirer,'' and, we hope, with a thorough appre. ciation of the importance of the question, we feel able to give only one answer, if it can be called an answer ; and that is, that " Enquirer " and others should consult their legal advisers.]
