The Westport Times AND CHARLESTON ARGUS. MONDAY, DECEMBER 7, 1868.
The interesting crisis which the Native war seems to have reached, induces us to give a preference to the news on that subject over items of local intelliwhich we quote from the Nelson Colonist justifies the omission of some intended remarks on the case of xApted v. Kynnersley.
A discussion which may be thought to have been unhappily initiated has, at least, borne some good fruit by induciag Dr Griles to address to us the letterwhich appears in another column, on the vexed question of admissions to the Hospital. The letter is, in itself, sufficiently exhaustive and explanatory to render any comment unnecessary, even if such were desirable. As bearing upon the manner of initiating or promoting the discussion which has thus happily advauced, we may, however, quote a passage which has casually come under our notice, in the columns of the JVeio Zealand Sim. The following is the dictum of the editor of the Sun : " An editor is not justified in refusing correspondence, solely because he disagrees with the opinions expressed. It is at times wise to admit an objectionable letter, for the sake of the opportunity it permits of refuting or disproving a popular fallacy."
