LATEST PROM POVERTY BAY.
Napier news to 10 o'clock on the morning of the 16th says that the St. Kilda arrived there from Mohaka on Saturday night, and the Ahuriri at 1 o'clock that morning. The former vessel reports all quiet. The latter says the Big Piiver Settlement has been destroyed by the rebels in full force, 500 strong. The rebels shot four friendlies and had seven others tied up for execution. The Europeans at Turanganui are entrenched with a force of about 25 of the settlers and 200 friendlies. The Ahuriri called at AVaipu for Morgan's men ; but they refused to come, saying they had enough to do to defend their own settlement. The friendly natives who went over to the enemy were shot by them. Mrs. Mann [uot Nairn as our, telegram stated] was treated in a most horrible manner before the wretches terminated her existence. She was dragged out of the house by the hair of her head, and subjected to great torture ; then they set fire to her clothing, and some time afterwards shot her. Mr Wilson was cut literally into three pieces.
