APPLICANTS FOR HOSPITAL RELIEF.

(To the JEditor of the Westport Times and Charleston Argus.) Sir,—My name having been brought before the public, I wish to make the following statement: — I knew nothing, before publication, of the letter in which my name was first used. The facts are as stated below : —"Four weeks last Thursday I had the misfortune to dislocate my shoulder. On the following morning I came to the Westport Hospital, under the impression that, upon the production of a guinea ticket, I should be admitted, but found the contrary. The warder said I could not be admitted upon that, but told me to sit down until the Doctor cariie. My mate who was with me, went to find the Doctor, who came at once. He also said my ticket was of no use, but immediately set my shoulder, without asking any questions about payment or sustenance money. After my shoulder was set he asked me if I had any means. I said ho, but that I would be eventually able to pay his

charges, as I had a claim paying a little over expenses. Nothing more was said until I was leaving, when I asked Dr Thorpe about bis fee. His answer was that it would bo £5. I then said that I would pay him, but could not afford to pay the sustenance money as well, lie then said " I will arrange about that." I then thanked him for his kindness and attention during my stay in the Hos-' pital under his care. I remain, Tours, &c, Alfeed Adams. Caledonian Terrace.
