Two schooners arrived in the roadstead today. They proved to be the Excelsior, with a general cargo from Duuedin ; and the Charlotte, with a cargo of produce from Christchurch. The Charlotte is the ycssel whi< h was spoken by the steamer Lyftelton in Groixelles Harbor on Friday last, and she was then -i7 days out.

The Excelsior, from Dunctlin, entered the river at 4 p.m., and is now alongside the GHadstcn3 rt.-ect Wharf, which is being again mile available for the discharge of carsio. '.The Excelsior left Dunedin on Friday, the 23rd ultimo, with a light breeze from the S.W. On (he afternoon of the 2Sth she passed Cape Farewell, and on the 29th she passed Sloven's Island. From the 30th, when off Cape Farewell, she met with a strong wind from N.W., and on that day she bore up for Tctr.ranui, where she remained until the 3i'd ihsfc., leaving with a light breeze from the eastward. On the 4th she had again a strong breeze from N.W., with thick weather, and rain, and the same weather continued on the sth. On this side of [farewell Spit, she experienced light winds all the way down to the anchorage, which she reached at 7 o'clock last evening. Captain Belt reports having seen no vessels on this side of Ca;>e Farewell. The cutter Charlotte, which also arrived in the afternoon, and' proceeded to the lagoon to discharge part of her cargo intended for Messrs Cobti and Co., has had a very lengthy passage, extending over 42 days. When twelve days out, she encountered very heavy weathcr from N.W., and had to put into Croixelle3 Harbor. On four occasions she left tint shelter, and on one occasion was as far round Cape Farewell as Books Point, when she was driven back by southerly gales. She fi.ially left on Sunday morning, and arrived off the Buller on Monday evening. She spoke several vessels, some of which arc already reported as having arrived at their destinations. Her cargo consists of potatoes and oats.

The pilot establishment at the entrance of New River, Southland, has been disco .- tinned. Official information has been published in the Gazette of the existence of a sunken rock, having two or three feet over it at low water, lying midway between the north entrance of the Three Steeples, off Cape Foulwind, and the entrance of the Buller River. The Unity cutter, the property of Mr Akersten. has been stranded on the Boulder Bank at Nelson, and has become a wreck.
