CHARLESTON.

The Committee of the prospecting asssociation, met on Tuesday evening, at the Melbourne hotel. There were S resent, Messrs Hennolly (in chair,) feal, M'Carthy Behan and MTarland. Mr M'Carthy inquired whether it was •definitely arranged how the money in had not was to be expended. He thought that it would bo more advisable and advantageous to the public to have the amount expended in cutting tracks through the back country. The other members however were in favour of sending out a prospecting partyanda motion to this effect made by Mr Behan and seconded by Mr Mnc Parlane, was carried. Several applications were then read from persons ■who volunteered their services on a prospecting party. It was resolved, that the following persons should form the two parties which should be despatched: —David Angus, Daniel Sanderson, Samuel Tarten, Fredrick Nye, John Barns, and William Osborne, and that they were to receive 30s a week per man, and to find themselves in every thing. Messrs M'Carthy and Behaa were instructed to carry out all necessary arrangements relative to their immediate departure. It was then resolved that the dramatic entertainment kindly volunteered by the Histrionic club should take place on Monday evening the 9th inst. The bal masque, held at the Casino de Venice on Monday evening, was, as had been anticipated a great success. A large number asssembled on the occasion, and it need hardly be stated that all enjoyed themselves In the .Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday, James Walsh, charged with being drunk and disorderly, forfeited his bail, 40s. Angus Mac Kinnon, charged as a vagrant and disorderly character, was remanded until Thursday. Bobert Kynne, was charged with having violently assaulted Sarah Liddle by seizing her by the throat and nearly suffocating her. The prisoner was sentenced to one months imprisonment with hard labor. A charge of vagraucj' was then preferred against the prisoner, and upon this charge he was sentenced to two months imprisonment with hard labor. The following cases were on the civil list : Heale v. Bennett, claim £2B 10s. Judgment was entered for plaintiff by default in amount claimed and costs A similar judgment was entered for £lO 10s in'the case of same plaintiff v. Dodd. Lewis v. Mrs Fitzgerald alius Launby £2 10 for damages, judgment for plaintiff by default in amount claimed and'eosts. Shanahan v. Mountain, claim £lO Is. ; set tied out of court.
