The 5.3. Waipara arrived in the river on Thursday evening, and brought the Westport portion of the Panama letters. She took in thirty tons of cargo, and started at seven o'clock yesterday morning, hoping to be able to get into Charleston, but returned about ten o'clock in consequence of being unable to enter that port. The s.s., John Penn, left yesterday evening for Greymouth and Hokitika. The s.s., Kennedy, may be expected here to-day, she left Nelson at 9.30 yesterday morning, but the wind at present is against her.

The schooner, Northern Light, was towed in yesterday evening by the Lioness. She brings a cargo of produce, and left Melbourne on the 17th inst.; she is the property of Messrß Spence Brothers and Co.
