Correspondence.

{To the 'Editor of the West Port Times and Charleston Argus). Sib.—l hope that you will permit me, through the medium of your columns, in justification to self and [partner to make a few remarks relative to the report of the Kynnersley hanquet as it appeared in the 'Charleston Herald. The portion I wish to draw particular attention to, runs thus, " the room was spacious, and decorated with ferns &c, the music, however, a very important adjunct to an entertainment of this character, was not even mediocre, apart from the musicians Messrs Rosenberg and Bosse playing I;he most unappropriate airs to the various toasts, their execution was wretched and in place of being a pleasing addition served to excite laughter and ridicule." In the first place, the writer states that the music "' was only middling." If the man possessed one grain of common sense he xshould kuow that cornet music is not i;he most suitable for a tea-party, 2ndly., he says, " the airs were not appropriate to the various toasts." For this he must thank the Committee ; they and not the musicians proposed what airs shoald be played, andif those ■worthy individuals wished to introduce other toasts and airs without aquainting us, they and not us, were to blame, we had written instructions to follow and had no orders to deviate therefrom. 3dly., he remarks that " the execution was bad in the extreme." I would be •very sorry indeed to attach any importance to this assertion, suffice it to say that I have played for the last twenty years in other parts of the world and would deem myself very badly off for praise if I sought it at the hands of a reporter to an insignificant tri-weekly. So far from that taunt causing me any shame it makes me only feel proud. I Eemain Tours &c, August Hqsekberg.
