POET OF WBSTPOItT. HIGH WATEB. This T>ny ... 9.34 a.m., 10.0 p.m. ABBIVALS. Nil. DEPABTl T BES. Nil. PROJECTED DEPAR'i ÜBEB. Alert, for Eijis, on or about Ist Nov. Waipara, for Hokiiika aud intermediate ports, this day. "VESSELS IN POBT. Ketch.—Mary. Schooners Necromancer, Ceres, Mount M'Laron, Ottawa. Steamer —Waipava. EXPECTED ABBIVALS. Mary, from Melbourne Nelson, from Nelson. Charles Edward, from Wanganui.
About one o'clock yesterday rooming, Captain Brown found that the Ceres was careening over, and that she was resting on a snag. In a short time Captain Leech was on the spot and succeeded in moving the vessel from her position, and at high tide yesterday she was lying safe some feet from the river bank. But as rain set-in again yesterday, she is liable, should the river continue swollen, to be knocked by any loose timber coming down, if she was in the Lagoon her position would be safer, and more comfortable for the Captain, who has been up for the past three nights watching the river, and guarding his schooner from any accident. The Wallabi, s.s., Captain Daniels, has been on the gridiron at Nelson, and has undergone a thorough overhauling. "We understand she was finished last Friday and ready for sea, but there is no account of her departure on the telegrams ; probably she is unable to venture outside this weather. There is no information of the John Penn, but it is likely that she will put in an appearance when the weather moderates. The p. 8., Charles Edward, may be expected from Wanganui early. She has been engaged by the firm of Dick and Seatonto bring cattle to this port, which are much needed at present, as there is no meat exhibited for.. sain, -except pork, and a good many people have very little relish for it. A cutter came in sight yesterday, supposed to be the Charlotte, from Christchurch. She has a crrgo of produce on board. Master, agent.
The kefcch, Alert, belonging to this port, arrived at Fox's last Friday, after an eightday's passage from Lyttelton, during which she experienced bad weather. She has a cargo of produce for Mr Thiele, and reports the Wild Wave as having left for this Coast four days before, and the Fancy, two days bsfore.
