CHARLESTON NEWS.
The weekly meeting of the Charleston Kilwinning Lodge of Freemasons, S.C., took place on Friday evening at the Masonic Hall. The attendance was large, owing very probably to the visit of Brother Harvey, steward of the Grand Lodge, Hokitika. Several gentlemen became craftsmen on the occasion. After the business of the evening had been disposed of, Brother Harvey was entertained at a dinner in tbe European Hotel; Worshipful Master Harris in the chair. Subsequent to the dinner, Brother Moss, P.M., kindly presided at the piano, and a merry festive night was passed. In the Warden's Court on Thursday, in the plaint of Boss v. Caleb O'Reilly and party, for the sum of £27, due to complainant for money paid for one sixth share in their claim ; judgment by consent was given for one fifth share, £5 4s, to be paid by each defendant with costs. In the case of Gunn v. Casey and Griffin—claim, £3 16s for a share of gold from claim ; judgment was entered for defendants. Judgment also was entered for defendants
in the case of the same complainant v. Iderstein. This was a claim for £ll 12s 4d, stated to be defendant's portion of a debt satisfied by the sale of complainant's shares in a claim. Several applications were made for the registration of claims, head races, &c, and one for the registration of an extended claim on the Darkie's Terrace, which was granted. Several of the former were granted jand others refused. On Friday the application of Luke, Morris and party, for registration of an extended claim at the Victoria Terrace, was granted. The application of Steele and party for an extended lease of ten acres, on the Back Lead, to which allusion was recently made, was ordered to bo forwarded to the Provincial Secretary.
