The s.s., Waipara, arrived in port on Saturday from Hokitika, Greymouth, and Brighton, At the latter port she landed e quantity of cargo, and is announced to leave this day for Hokitika amd intormediat ports. The p.s., Charles Edward, left Nelson on Friday at fonr o'clock, and came in with Saturday evening's tide. She brought some cattle besides a general cargo, and proceeded to Hokitika yesterday morning. She is announcad to leave for Manukau on Wednesday. Supposed Loss op a Schooner and Seven Lives,—The "Sydney Morning Herald" of August 27th, states :—■" All hopes respecting the safety of the schooner Annie 1)., 75 tons, which was in company with the barque Schoolboy, off Richmond, on the 12th July, have at length been given up. The Annie D. was commanded by Captain John Wilson, a native of Scotland, -who has a wife and three children. The following aro the names of the crew: —John Carroll, mate Francics King, cook and steward; James' Linn, A.8., nativo of Sweden; John Milligan' A.8., native of Scotland ; Thomas Smith, A.8., native of Liverpool ; and Frank Brown, A.8., native of Prussia." Important to Mariners. —A telegram from Duriedin, dated Wednesday, Sept 16th, states :—" The ship Hydra struck a hidden •rock yesterday off Cape Saunders. The bearings were taken of her position after she had run two or three cables lengbh on a NW course, and were found to be from Cape Saunders, S by W J W thr.ee and a half miles; from the funnel of the wrecked steamer Victory, SW by W i W 2£ miles distant ; from the Headland named by the Maoris Nor nan, WNW iW. The rock is in the direct track of steamers sailing south. As the rock is not on the chart a survey will bo made and it is suggested that a bell buoy be placed to mark the spot." The Supposed Wreck opt tiie Nortii Cape.—Tho Auckland "Weekly News" of September 19th states : —" Captain James, pilot of tho Kaipara harbor, arrived in town on Tuesday, and gives full details of the fragments of a wreck seen between Cape Maria Van Diemen and the North Cape, by the Hannah Newton and Little Fred. The Nautical Almanac picked up by the Little Fred had the words " Barque Rockwood, of San Francisco," written on a piece of blotting paper. Tho jibboom picked up by the Hannah Nowton was 16 inches in diameter, 38 feet long, and painted white at the head. This, we are informed by Captain James, would probably be tho size used by a vessel of about 600 tons. Two tanks, probably bread tanks, were passed, and also some square timber."
