CHARLESTON.

The amateur concert, got up to assist the fund for building the English Church, was a great success, indeed it was one of the very best of the many good entertamments which have from time to time been given in Charleston. Tho Casino Theatre was the scene of operations and the audience numbered about three hundred, the receipts being estimated at between £7O and £SO. The performance offered no end of variety of amusements in the shape of music of all hinds, trapeze performance, and Christy Minstralities ; but want of space precludes us from giving more than a list of of the names ofthe ladies, or rather lady, and gentlemen wno were good enough to assist at the affair, and a passing glance at their performances. Their names are; Mrs. Moss, Chas. Broad, Esq., KM. and Messrs. Geo. C. Donne, M.P.C., G-. C. Bowman, Hugh Jones, D. Byrne, C. H. \V. Bowen, W. G. Jackson, C, Foyn, C. Howard, T. Bear. In addition to these were Messrs T. H. West. J. Burgess, and P. Leathwood, who kindly lent their services. The "singing throughout was excellent, and nearly everything was encored, the audience oftentimes joining in with a jolly good " Coal box." One little incident had rather a novel effect. To give additional zest to the racy song of " Champagne Charley" well sung by Mr. Bowen, a group of lucky bachanalians were discovered on the stage, each polishing off a bottle of real No. 2, and joining heartily in the chorus, the funny effect being further increased, by Mr. Bowen, in knocking of the head of his bottle, and shooting the bulk of the contents into the eyes of the unfortunate leader of the orchestra. The performance commeuced at eight o'clock, did not terminate till close on midnight, when the company dispersed apparently thoroughly well pleased with their night's entertainment.
