CHARLESTON.

The ouly cases in the Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday, were Isaacs v. Yorley, in which judgment was given for £2 10, and Craddock v. M'Donald, and O'Donnell v. M'Loughlin, in neither of which was any appearance put in. In the "Warden's Court the same day two important mining leases were conditionally granted by the "Warden, one being the the Southern Cross Mining Company, registered, Henry Evans manager, for a variety of ground at Darkie's Terrace, comprising in all 5 acres, 16 roods, and I pole, the rental to be fixed at £2 10s per acre. The other lease was to the Band of Hope Company, Hunter and party, for 2 aeres, 2 roods, and 1 pole, of ground in the same locality; and adjoining the claim above mentioned. The rental of this was also recommended to be £2 10s per acre, and both leases will contain clauses empowering the "Warden to

enter upon the land for certain purposes, such as the making of roads constructing races, &c. A raffle by Mr G. Donne, of two sections of land at Westport, came off on Mpnday evening, the number of subscribers being 150 at £1 each. Two Brighton men were the winners, Messrs Fennell and Stewart being the lucky winners of one section. We understand information has been received from Wellington, per telegram, that a notification appears in the Gazette, to the effect that on and after the Ist September, the Registrar's District of Brighton will be abolished, and the District of Charleston for Registration of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, will combine the whole country from Razorbaek to the Totara river, thus assimiltatingthe Registrar's district to that of the Warden. After considerable delay the dispensation for the Charleston Kilwinning Lodge, S.C., has been received, and the Lodge will be consecrated, officers installed, and candidates initiated, on Friday next. A grand Masonic banquet will be given the same evening. From an advertisement which appears in another column, it will be seen that a movement is on foot for getting up a race meeting here next month, a public meeting of those interested in such a project being called for Thursday evening next, at Rooney's Hotel.
