FAREWELL SPIT, COOK'S STRAITS.

The following notice is published in the " New Zealand Gazette:"— "Notice to Mariners.—Notice is hereby given that observations taken by the Chief Marine Surveyor, from the colonial surveying steamer St Kilda, show that Spit end or the extreme eastern end of Farewell Spit has shifted, and is now one nautical mile and a quarter to the north east of its position, as shown on the Admiralty chart (sheet No. 7) of New Zealand, Admiralty number 2616. " The alteration is not sufficiently great to render the course given in the ' New Zealand Pilot' for clearing this danger unsafe. "James M. Balfot/r, '" Colonial Marine Engineer.
