LATEST PARLIAMENTARY INTELLIGENCE.
[By Electric Telegraph.] Wellington, Thursday. August 13. The great debate was brought to a close last evening. Mr. Fox spoke for three hours, and made a telling and powerful speech, in which he criticised with great severity the acts o the Ministry. The division took place at midnight, and resulted in the Government obtaining a majority of nine votes. The number of members who voted was fl.fi y-nine, and, if twelve are added for pairs; and one for the name of the Speaker, it will be seen that only four votes are not accounted for, three of whom were natives—one Maori representative (Paterson) having paired' off in favour of the Government.
