The present line weather is a Godsend to ■coasters, and the little Constant is making the most of it, running to and fro to the Butler. Her spirited owners, Messrs M'Donald'Brothers iiave, in conjunction with Mr Paul, purchased a new vessel, the Alert, a strong blue gum, Tasuianiaii built boat, oi great beam, light draught, aud large carrying capacity, aud in fact, just such a boat as would be designed for tnis trade. The s.s. John Penn, leit lloiatika at twelve o'clock on Monday night, and arrived at Powell's wharf yesterday evening about eleven o'clock. She was unable to cross the Hokitika bar, but was tendered and took in some.passengers, &c.
