(FEOM THE MELBOURNE AItOTTS.) MELBOURNE. Tuesday, June 30. A large and enthusiastic public meeting of constitutionalists was held at St. George's Hall, at which three thousand persons were present. A resolution was passed in favor of the Ministerial policy. In the Council Mr Jenner gave notice of motion that the Council would vote the grant if sent as a separate measure. Hopes of a speedy compromise are increasing. Mr Duffy has joined the Opposition. L. L. Smith's stud distribution has taken place. The City Council propose to spend £42,000 on street repairs. SYDNEY. Monday, June 28. Hirst, the cleric of Messrs Alderson and Son, has been committed for trial. His defalcations are stated to exceed £7OO. The woman Hunter, who was injured by being run over by the Parramatta train, died last night. The markets are stagnant. The P. N. Z. aud A. E. M. Company's steamer Eakaia, with the mails from England via Panama, arrived here to-day. At the rifle-matches on Saturday, Lynch scored seventy-nine points at 700 and 800 yards. The Governor and party intend making a tour through the interior next month, visiting Melbourne by way of Deniliquin. The G-ympie Creek diggings are attracting a large number of diggers , the reefs are reported as being very rich. ADELAIDE. Monday, June 29. Government retrenchment is still a prominent feature of general conversation; several more offices are announced this morning for abolition. The proprietors of the silver mine
at Scott's Creek, lately the Wheal Maria, have purchased crushing machinery, and expect to commence operations in about a month's time from this date. There have been heavy storms of wind and rain to-day. Tho corn market is unchanged. Juno 30. The flour market has improved slightly since the arrival of the Panama mail. Quotations are unaltered. The Civil Service retrenchment has commenced.
