The s.s. John Penn did not leave the wharf till yesterday as the weather was so bad, but she proceeded on her trip last evening,
The Kennedy left Nelson at 5..'50 the 16th, put in to Totaranui that night, the wind blowing hard from S.W. Left Totaranui Saturday night. Arrived oil' Buller 3 p.m. yesterday, and crossed the bar at S-30 p.m. The bai-que Nightingale was sighted last night by the Beautiful Star lying oil' and on, about six miles to the northward of the port ; also a small cutter supposed to be the Volunteer from the Manakau, with produce. The s.a. Beautiful Star left Dunedin on Thursday, July 2nd, at 8 a.m., and arrived at Lyttelfon at lua.ui. n.xt day. Owing to the stoppage of the rail way did not sail till Saturday at noon oil Kaikora peninsula; experienced very heavy iu ad sea and wind, arrived in Wellington at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Left on Monday, July 6th, arrived at Wanganuinext day at 10 a.m.. discharged cargo and ready for sea en Wednesday, but was detained owing to heavy N.W. gale blowing. Left Wanganui on Tuesday duly 13th, having been for so .\ n days detained through heavy gules, at 4 p.m., crossed the bar in company with the p.s. Kelson, and steered for Cape Farewell at 8 p.m. owing to very heavy sea and strong head wind eased the engines till daylight on Wednesday, blowing hard from the S.VV. all clay; at 3 p.m. off Bush End, at 0 pjn.abreastCape Eareweli, gale still continuing, put back to .Bush End and brought up for the night on Thursday, weather threatening, barometerialimg ran back to Totaranui, and anchored there at noon. At 8 p.m. on Saturday night got under we gli, and steamed down the coast against very heavy sea, and crossed the bar in safety at 1 igh water last night. Left Sti eimlet, Elizabeth, and Elfin at anchor at Totaranui. She brings about 90 tons cargo for West Coast, besides a largo qu ntity of stock.
