Bank of New Zealand ; 1 case, Fleming, Parry and Co ; 1 case, 1 truss, Brown ; 10 cases jams, Bailie and Humphrey ; 4 planks, order.
The Nightingale must have had a hard time of it last night, and very likely had to slip and run for it, for a heavy gale was blowing from the north and subsequently shifted to the southward. On this trip she has, thanks to the want of men on the Lioness, had a most unlucky detention. The Challenge will come up as soon as possible to tow her in, but with such weather, she too will be hart our bound and cannot possibly come to the barque's assistance. The manifest of the Nightingale has not been brought ashore though Captain M'Phaiden landed on Tuesday last. A fearful surf broke over the beach and bar yesterday, and the high tides reached their old spot, nearly up to the school-house. With the present fresh, a quantity of timber may be' expected to be washed down the river, and again thrown up on the beach. It is lo be hoped that the public will now let it lie there both for their own safety's sake, and to avoid the penalties for removal which are certain to be enforced.
