LATEST VICTORIAN TELEGRAMS.
(From the Weekly Age, June 12.) Sydney, sth June. It is believed that the Eoman Catholic chapel at Mayor's Creek, which was burnt down the other day, was set fire to by a man named Tidd, a Catholic. 6th June. Nearly £3OOO have already been subscribed towards St. Andrew's College. The committee of the A. J. C. have, after a searching inquiry into the matter, decided that the rider of The Barb, when run tor the Queen's Plate, weighed out correctly. Bth June. The judgment of the full court was delivered to-day on the demurrer raised by Mr Macpherson, M.L.A., as to the legality of the court to take cognizance of a breach of the privileges of the House of Assembly. Their Honors Judge Cheeke and Judge Hargrave sustained the demurrer, but the Chief Justice, the hon. Sir Alfred Stephen, condemned. The majority of the court being in favor of the validity of the demurrer, Mesrrs Lee and Macpherson, M.L.A.s, were discharged. The hon. Mr Martin, Attorney-General, gave notice of appeal to the Privy Council on the subject. A parcel of silks has been discovered on Clarke's Island, a small islaud on tlie east side of Port Jackson, opposite to Darling Point. It is supposed that the silks are the fruits of a robbery. Henry Hopkins, Esq., who gave such a handsome donation towards the erection of -;Mr Henderson's church, in Collins-street, Melbourne, has now given the sum of £IOOO to be applied to the foundation of a scholarship at Camp den College. The small paddle steamer Black Swan, formerly running to Pittwater, &c, but recently laid on to Manning River, has been wrecked at the entrance to Manning River. All hands were saved. The coachmakers of Sydney have presented Mr Vial (who is a coaehmaker by trade) with a testimonial, to indicate their appreciation of his conduct in seizing O'Farrell at the time of the attempted assassination of the Prince. The Government has determined to erect a new lighthouse on Barrenjuey Head at the entrance to Broken Bay.
