GERMAN TERRACE.
(from our own correspondent). June 25, 1868. On German Terrace, Fraser and party have put in a tunnel of 500 feet, and have been at work eight months. They first drove 200 feet in a easterly direction, and put in a monkey drive and sunk several shafts, trying for the lead. They then turned to the southeast, and have now come on three feet of washdirt. At present they are engaged making a dam, to procure water for washing. Jacob and party have worked in a run of 700 feet on the main bottom, and then made'a drive of 200 feet on it further back, looking for a main bottom run close to the range, which will be the farthest back run of gold yet, should they be successful in finding it. They think they will get a heavy run of washdirt close to the range, the same as the Hau-llau and ticandanavian. Those parties have come from that district, and they consider the same belt of range runs along by German Terrace, and expect something good from their present undertaking. In the first run they put in of 700 feet, the yield was about £lO a week. Waldemar and party are working near the above claim, and putin a tunnel of 600 feet, which paid them £7 a week. This being worked out they also are trying for a back lead. Russell and party have been working a front run for nine months, and went in 400 feet, which has been paying them about £lO a week ; and as'this will be worked out in a few days they purpose driving a tunuel 400 feet towards the range for a back lead. Bannerman and party have a tunuel in about 500 feet, and have been making good wages for some time past, they have four feet of wash dirt, but not of a rich character, it will take some time to work out this claim. Smidtch and party have a tunnel of 300 feet which has paid there £ls a week, they have two feet and one half of good wash dirt, which is of the beat class come on yet at the German terrace. Their claim will be worked out in a few weeks, has Jbeen on the front run of gold. They then intend trying for a back run. Strange and party have a tunnel in 600 feet and have been for some time making good wages, their washdirt is of a productive class, though thin. Hansen and party have a tunnel in of five hundred feet. They have been for the past five months making about £8 a week, they have six feet of washdirt of an average character on this run. Walker and party, the prospectors of the back run, have a tunnel in of 500 feet, which has been paying them £8 a week for the past six months. They have six feet of washdirt with more stone in it than their neighbors, Hansen and party. Albert and party are in about 350 feet, and have averaged .about £8 a week for the past five months. The character of their washdirt is the same as that of Hansen and party.
The Adelphi Hotel changed hands on Tuesday under tho hammer of Mr Munro, Mr Morey being the purchaser at £2BO.
