MR. ERASER'S TESTIMONIAL.

(To the. Edit or of the TVestport Times and Charleston Argus?) Sir, —I feel myself compelled to address you with regard to Mr Tyler's remark about Eraser's Testimonial, and after having read the letters that have appeared in your paper, signed by an " Old Westportian." Mr Tyler chose to remark, in his capacity as chairman of the Education Committee, that the signatures (of Eraser's Testimonial) were obtained, as a good many others were, of a similar description, that is—signed by people not knowing what they wero signing. I have only to say, and that emphatically, that I defy any one to assert truthfully that they signed that

testimonial .to Mr Eraser in ignorance, although some way not have read the document through. I, as the person collecting the names, took tho opportunity of explaining tho matter explicitly. J may say that Mr Tyler was tho first from whom I solicited an autograph ; he read the testimonial, and at the same time refusing, gave his reasons that being chairman of the Education Committee he could not do so, but would give Mr Eraser his support when the testimonial was taken into consideration. If Mr Tyler has got in his possession Mr Fraser's testimonial let him carefully look through it, and see by his remarks, if he has not cast a slur upon the mental perception of tho majority of the most respectable inhabitants of Westport. Tours &c., B. Gh Cassell.

Esquire: everybody yet nobody, equal to captain. Jury: twelve prisoners in a box to try one at the bar. Informer: a wretch who is pardoned for being baser than his comrades. Lawyer : a learned gentleman who rescues your estate from your enemy and keeps it himself.
