RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, CHARLESTON.

Friday, June 5. (Before C. Broad, Esq., R.M.) Harry Palmer, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined £l. Joseph Williams was fined a similar sum for being drunk and incapable. James Ewcn, John Sadler and John M'Can were respectively fined £1 for being drunk and disorderly. Johu Knox charged with disturbing the proceedings of the Warden's Court allowed his bail of £2 to be forfeited. Archibald Jac7cson charged with the same offence, was discharged with a caution. John King was brought up charged with cutting open the tent of Francis Gunn, and sterling therefrom a flannel shirt and a pair of stocking, of the valueof seven shillings and sixpence. The charge being proved the prisoner was sentenced to three months imprisonment. crviL CASES. D. Morgan v. Mrs Haddouo.—Claim, £5 65., for goods supplied. Judgment for plaintiff for full amount and costs. Miller and Ayton v. Smith, trading as Smith and liattray, Candlelight. Claim, £5 19s. 3d., for goods supplied. Plaintiff nonsuited. Alfred Morgan v. Myrich Jones.— Claim, £4 10s., for board and lodging. Judgment for plaintiff for £2 and costs.

Monday, June 8. (Before C. Broad, Esq., E.M.) Steimrt Mac Alister charged with being of unsound mind, through excessive drinking, was remanded, on Br Bakers recommendation until Fridiay. Barthoolmew Foley allowed his bail of LI to be forfeited, as also Zohn Bice his bail of L2. Peter Mullen was charged with steallingaeock, the property of William Jones. From the evidence of the complainant who is a miner living at the Belle 1) Union Hotel, and his wife, it appeared they had missed some fowls and finding feathers and a head near prisoner's hut information was given to the police who found the fowl, produced and identified, in a bag under the prisoners bed place; Detective Bowley and Constable Pool proved finding the fowl, and prisoner offering them LI each to say nothing more abnut it. In the defence Mr O'Neill called Abe Southwell, who stated the prisoner had often complained of the prosecutor's fowls eating his food, and he had himself seen them in the hut pulling the tucker about. After calling numerous witnesses, Mr O'Neill submitted in defence, that the prisoner had no intention of stealing, but had killed the fowl in a moment of exasperation on finding his food destroyed. In consideration of mitigating circumstances the prisoner was sentenced to but seven days imprisonment. Matliew'Corriganvras charged by Stephen M'Kinty with stealing four £1 notes-It appeared that the complainant was in company with the prisoner drinking oil Thursday night, and was eventually taken to the Clydesdale Bakery, where they stayed the remainder of the night. Next morning ■the complainant missed IA and asked

the prisoner if he had taken it, the latter replied in the affirmative but did not give it up, and in the evening denied having any money, saying he had only eighteen pence; ho was afterwards given in charge of the police who on searchingliimat the camp,found three £1 notes and some silver, in his pockets. Tha prisoner who admitted taking the money, but denied any intention of stealing it, was sentenced to fourteen days imprisonment. 'JITII/ CASES. Strike v. Smith—The hearing of this case was adjourned to next day, to allow a proper bill of particulars being filed. Win. Brent v. Ohesterman Gongdon Sf, Co., Claim L 5.5. 6; Judgment deferred. Tayler v. Kelly and Party, Claim L 102.14 reduced to LIOO to bring it within the jurisdiction of the court. One of the party admitted the amount, but pleaded that payment was not yet due. The party consisting of P Kelly, John Kirkpatrick, Timothy O'Leary, Peter Wadd, John Carroll, John Irwin, and John Fitzgerald, having L2O, in in the summer took up a claim on Brown's Terrace, made terms with a blacksmith for the erection of a machine, and agreed with the plaintiff for supplies of tucker, giving him the L2O cash and the balance to be paid when gold was got. The plaintiff stated, he had only consented to give two months credit, and five months had passed and when he asked for some security, he found that all the machinery was made over to others. In reply to some question put by the Magistrate, defendant said, the party owed others about Ll6O but none of the other creditors were pressing. They were now ready for crushing. Judgment entered up, but execution to be stayed for 24 hours, to see if certain arrangments proposed by defendant were carried out.

ADDISON'S FLAT POLICE COTJBT. Dr Giles held a Besident Magistrate's Court on Friday last as well as a Warden's Court. Frederick Ansted prosecuted Joseph Graven for maliciously breaking the windows of the Club Hotel, on the evening of the Ist instant. Sentenced to one months imprisonment with hard labor. There were two others engaged with Craven who have not as yet been brought up. Constables M'Guire and O'Mara arrested Craven on the 2nd instant. wakden's cases. George Gray and party v. Daniel Ready, for occupation of ground for which the plaintiffs had protection. Decision for Gray and party. Cullen v. Sillen. No appearance. Some applications for tail races, &c., of no interest, concluded the business of the court.
