The p.s Charles Edward left Nelson at 1 o'clock on Wednesday, and had a capital run down, arriving at the wharf at 11 a.m. yesterday. She was intended so leave for the south this morning, but it is not likely that she could venture out in such weather. The schooner, Crest of the Wave, left Bunedin on the 29th ult., with a strong N.W. wind, which continued till she breasted Wiaraki. She then got strong S.W. breezes, which lasted as far as the Kaikouras, where she was detained through the wind veering round to the north-west. This increased to a regular gale, which rendered it necessary to heave the vessel to for twelve hours. At the expiraton of that time the wind as suddenly shifted round to the south-east, causing a confused sea. She ran before this till she sighted Cape Terawiti, when the wind again chopped round to the S.W. After passing the Straits and sighting Stephen Island, she was caught in a hrnvy gale from the W.N.W. which lusted twenty-four hours. From that time she experienced light and variable winds and line weather down the coast, and arrived off the Iluller at 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The Bruce was coming out at the time and at once fastened on and towed the schooner up the river, after which she continued her voyage south. The Crest of the Wave brings a full cargo of flour and produce.
