THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE.

(To the Editor of the TVestport Times and Charleston Argus.) Sib,—Mr Munro openly challenges me, as your evening contemporary, states, to point out in what essential the Committee has failed in the performance of its duties. Eirst, I, with others, think that he and the Committee failed miserably, and committed manifest injustice in the selection of a schoolmaster. Second, I consider that Mr Tyler insulted, Mr Munro and the other committee coinciding in the insult, the 130 persons whose signatures were attached to the memorial, by making the remarks he did. Third, it appears to me and others a piece of unwarrantable presumption on the part of a moribund, or at least the moiety of a moribund committee, to appoint a master just about a week before their term of office expired. Why did not the committee wait till their re-organisation was complete, and why scramble to turn out Mr Eraser and elect another when it was clearly only common decency to let the new committee discharge that duty if it was necessary. It may be that the committee were ignorant of their position ! If so, why so ? Why did they not make enquiries during their unquestioned term of office ? They are on the horns of this dilemma. They either were ignorant of, or exceeded their functions ; let them choose which they please. I trust this will satistify Mr Munro as it has dissatisfied many in the town, in addition to An Old Westportian.
