The Kelson came over tho bar about 1 a.m. yesterday morning after a good, but uneventful trip from Hokitika, which place she left at 1 o'clock on Tuesday. She sailed again yesterday for Nelson. The John Penn came in yesterday forenoon after waiting outside a short time for the tide to make a little. She brought a fair number of passengers, but no cargo and left again by the same tide for Nelson. It seems as though the John Penn and he Nelson were to be constantly pitted against each other for they both left for the same destination, Nelson, yesterday. The Nelson got away first by some little time, but Captain Carey had every confidence of overhauling her before she reached her port. The excitement of the contest was, however apparently Over, as no betting on the result took place.
