RESIDENT MAGISTRATES' COURT, CHARLESTON.

(Before Chas. Broad, Esq.,E.M.) Monday, Mat 1& llohert Lafkin, charged with creating a disturbance, allowed his bail to be forfeited. Bolvrt M'Kerrow was charged on art information which stated that he and others unlawfully obstructed the public thoroughfare by the erection of a water wheel and machinery. Constable Ehodes deposed that the wheel in question was a public nuisance and rendered the road unsafe, several accidents having been caused by it to horses and vehicles passing along the road.

In reply to a question from the bench, the constable said the machinery was not on the road } only immediately contiguous. His Worship—Thenl can do nothing, the "Warden may interfere, but I cannot, and must dismiss the information.

Runlerv. Mr Johnston for defendant, confessed judgment, and asked for time, but the plaintiff showed good grounds why it should not be granted. In reply to a question from the bench, defendant said he had no goods on which a levy could be made. The Magistrate thereupon

ordered him to be imprisoned for one month. Qoldstucker t>. Uunffa -Claim, £2 10s for commission on letting a house. Pat Bytnes applied fot a renewal, "and stated in reply to a question from the bench, that he resided on the premises. Granted.
