CHARLESTON NEWS.
We understand considerable progress has been made in the construction of the telegraph line to connect the Worth Westland district to Grcymoufh, and the rest of the Colony. A large number of posts are in position north of the Grey, and a great portion of the tra k has been cut through the bush between the Bazorback and Brighton, about fifty men being at work on that portion of the line. Shipments of wire have been made to Brighton, and the whole line is expected to be completed in about six weeks.
We beg to remind our readers of the amateur entertainment for the benefit of the hospital, which takes place this evening at the Casino de Venise. It is now some time since we have had the pleasure of attending one of these agreeable entertainments, and no doubt there will be a bumper house to-night.
Some efforts which have been made to induce the drapers, storekeepers, &c, to shut up their shops at a reasonable hour of the evening, we are sorry to learn, have not met with complete success. We see it announced in advertisement that only one firm stands out against the early closing movement, viz., that of Messrs Mulligan and Halligan.
