The p.s., Charles Edward, under the command of Captain Scott, formerly of the p.s., Lyttleton, arrived in port yesterday morning, with a full cargo of sheep and cattle for Mr Freeth. This is the first trip of the Charles Edward to the Bullcr, and notwithstanding all the perils and troubles she has gone through since her arrival on the coast, she i* now as good as ever, and will no doubt soon become one of the favorite traders. Her new proprietors, Messrs N. Edwards and Co., have had her thoroughly overhauled, and she is now fit for any work that she may be called on to perform. She possesses great power and speed, and will be a great acquisition to our coasting steam fleet. She takes down south a large proportion of her sheep, and is to leave by the early tide. The south channel or entrance to the Bullcr, is deepening day by day, and that to the northward is getting shallower. There is little danger of vessels of even deeper draught than the Nightingale, being bar bound "inwards or outwards again for some time to come.

The Nightingale will commence discharging to-day, and it is expected that she will be clear on Saturday next. She will, as before, on her last trip, be laid on for Newcastle, and will make the least possible delay in returning to that port. To the groat satisfaction of a largo number of persons, the Lioness succeeded yesterday morning in bringing the Nightingale up to the wharf safe and sound, the channel having sufficiently improved to allow the barque to come up without difficulty. She left the Port Phillip heads on the slh inst. with light easterly winds, which lasted till the 9th, when the Sisters were readied. Four days after that Mount Cook was sighted, and Hokitika roadstead was reached on the lGth inst. She then beat up the coast for this port, and when off Charleston, was picked up by the Lioness and towed to the Buller, whore she anchored on Friday the 17th. Throughout the passage she met wifh moderate winds and fine least depth of water on crossing the bar yesterday, at twelve feet.

WHAEFAGE AND TONNAGE RATES IN HOKITIKA. In the exercise of the powers delegated to (he Hon John Hull, Esq., he has gazetted the following schedule of charges to be levied upon goods " landed upon the parcel of ground known as Gibson's Quay" : Bran, one shilling per 60 bushels. Bricks, three shillings per 1000. Carrots, one shitting per 22-10 lbs. Coals, one shilling per 2210 lbs. Chaif, two shillings per 2240 lbs. Cattle, two shillings and sixpence per head. Dairy Produce, bacon, beef, &c, one shilling per 2240 lbs. Flour, one shilling per 2000 lbs. Fruit (green), one shilling and sixpence per ton measurement. Grain, one shilling per 40 bushels. Horses, two shillings and sixpence each. Lime, one shilling per 2240 lbs. Machinery, one shilling per 2240 lbs. Mangoldwurtzel, one shilling per 22401b5. Onions, one shillings per 2250 lbs. Potatoes, one shilling per 2240 lbs. Poultry, free. Palings, two shillings per 1000. Sawn timber, threepence per 100 fieial feet. Shingles, sixpence per 1000. Sheep and pigs, twopence each. Slates, three shillings per 1000. Turnips, one shilling per 2240 lbs. Vehicles (two-wheeled), two shillings and sixpence each. Vehicles (four-wheeled), five shillings each. All other goods, one shilling and sixpence per ton. Transit Shed. (In addition to the above charges.) On goods landed at the Transit Shed, and left there for a longer time than twenty-four hours, for every week or part of a Meek, a rent of two shillings per ton. On all goods brought to the Transit Shed from other parts of the wharf to be stored—

deceiving, one shilling and sixpence per ton.
