CHARLESTON NEWS.
We are requested by the secretary of the Charleston Hospital to acknowledge the receipt, through Mr Warden Lightband, of the sum of £4O, being a donation from a Mr John Harley a miner. It is our painful duty to report a fatal accident, which occurred in the Darkie's Terrace Eoad on Monday evening. The deceased William Kennedy, a baker in the employ of Mr Eiordon, was it appears, returning by the tramway from business on the Darkie.s Terrace. When near the town he sprang off the car while still in motion, and fell violently to the ground, the back part of his head coming into contact with one of the sleepers or a stene. The poor fellow was picked up in a state of insensibility and carried into the hospital, where he was attended by Dr Bennett, but he never rallied and finally expired at four o'clock next morning. An inquest will most likely be held by the Coroner Mr Broad, EM. The Secretary of the Charleston Volunteer Company has received the following from the Commissioner. To Herbert Vorley Esq. Hon. Secretary Charleston Volunteer Company. Sir, —I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter with accompanying enclosures, containing signatures and offer of services as Volunteers, I shall have much pleasure in forwarding the same to the Colonial Secretary.
