STEERING AND SAILING RULES.
To prevent as far as possible collisions at sea, and to put masters of vessels in mind of " the rules of the road," the following aids to memory have been published by the AssistantSooretary to the Board of Trade, London: — TWO STEAMSHIPS MEKTINO. Meeting steamers, do not dread When you see threo lights ahead—■ Port your helm and show your red. TWO STEAMSHIPS PASSING. Green to Green, or Red to Red— Perfect safety—Go ahead ! TWO STEAMSHIPS CHOSSITTO. Tf to your starboard Red appear, It is your duty to keep clear; To act as j udginent says is propor— To port, or starboard —back, or stop hor ; But when upon your port is seen A steamer's starboard light of Green, There's not so much for you to do. The Green light must keep clear of you. GENERAL CAUTION, Both in safety and in doubt, Always keep a good look-out; In danger, with no room to turn, Ease her! stop her! go astern !
