The Westport Times AND CHARLESTON ARGUS. THURSDAY, APRIL 9, 1868.

The inhabitants of the district of Westland North will, to-day, have an opportunity of electing the first member to represent them in the General Assembly. The polling for this district will take place at the Court House, Westpott, and at the Police Camp, at Addison's Flat. We have already alluded to the three candidates who are seeking from us the honor to represent the district in the General Assembly, and it will be needless to recapitulate their views now. What we want most particularly to impress on the minds of the electors is this, that Mr Gallagher, as far as all loyal people are concerned, is virtually left out of the list. It then becomes a question which of the other two candidates will be most likely to represent us creditably and faithfully in the important position of member of the General Assembly, where the most important interests relating to us from our position as a goldfield. population will be brought forward. As we have before stated, Mr Home has been singularly reticent on his views and principles, and the only opportunity the people of Westport have had to hear him, was on the day of nomination. We know, however, that he is an old and an able politician. Choose which man you will, plump for him, and do not, by splitting your votes, let Mr Gallagher slip in, in the present disturbed state of the district. We sincerely trust that the men who wish to vote for Home or Donne will come down here and do it, and also that the men from Caledonian will do as they promised in the matter. But again we say, weigh well who is the man you will choose and vote for him, and much as we dislike Donne and his antecedents, we would rather see him returned than Gallagher, hoping however, that the good sense of the district will put Mr Home at the head of the poll.
