The Westport Times AND CHARLESTON ARGUS. FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 1868.

Vox pojouli, Vox Dei. Loyalty has spoken through the people of Westport, and sedition may well hide its diminished head after so overwhelming a display of love and affection to the British crown and family. As one man the vast crowd who met here to celetfco °«™.pe 0 f His Koyal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, showed their devotion and their loyalty, and we are sure that this was not outside show only, but was dictated by that feeling which has made the history of England so glorious and so great. Men of all races, colors, and creeds, joined the vast throng in front of the Courthouse, and we are sure that the feelings of all present beat in unison with tim expression of loyalty spoken by the various speakers, whose words will be found in another column. Long may it be ere civil war shall stalk through thesp Islands ; and may the disaffected Fenians bow to the majesty of public opinion expressed this day. Whatever may be the upshot of tho party feeling that has been lately engendered, we are quite sure that all who took part in yesterday's proceedings will be ready to uphold the Constitution by word and deed; and in the words" of Sir Walter Scott, be ready—- " Should ever breath of Zealand's gale, E'er waft assassins o'er ; Or footstep of invader rude With rapine foul, and red with blood Pollute our happy shore, Then farewell home, then farewell friends, Adieu eaeh tender tie. Conjoined we'll mingle in the tide, Where charging squadrons furious ride To conquer or to die."
