National Bosettes.—The public are informed that rosettes of tricolored ribbon, will be obtainable from Messrs Fleming, Parry and Co, and Smith and M' Dowell, at the shops of Messrs Haller, Shuloff, and Horn, Tabacconists, from any member-of the Committee, as well as at the Committee Rooms, Grladstone Street. Relig-ious Services.—ln addition to the service to be held in the Court House to-day, at which the Bw. Mr Harvey will officiate, the Roman Catholic's will have a special service at their church, to offer up thanksgiving for the fortunate escape of Prince Alfred; Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Volunteers.—Last evening the members of the Volunteers again met for drill, and the first lessons being gradually mastered. Irksome as the first attempts may be, it is by the thorough knowledge of them, that efficient soldiers are made. Once the preliminary lessons got over, soldiering becomes not only an easy but a pleasant duty. Ahmed Force For Hokitika.—The Government steamer St. Kilda, by this time will have reached Hokitika. On the receipt of the news of a probable riot there by the Authorities at Wellington, the St. Kilda w-as sent to Taranaki to take an board a number of the armed Constabulary, to increase the force at Hokitika. Orawaiti Bridoe.—With a view of induciug the inhabitants of the Caledonian, and the places north of the Orawaiti to join in the demonstration. Mr Jones has thrown open his bridge, free of toll, to all kinds of traffic for this day. The Escort.—The usual fortnightly escort arrived in town yesterday, bringing gold for the Bank of New South Wales and the Union Bank. We have not been able to ascertain the amounts received.
Ball and Supper.—Mr S. Hamilton, of the Adelphi Theatre, gives a grand bal masque and supper this evening, in honor of the rejoicings at Prince Alfred's escape. We hope he may be patronised.
The Volunteers. —Mr W. Pitt, by a majority of two was chosen captain pro tern at a meeting held on Tuesday evening. Drill is being held each night, and the members appear to pay great attention to the preliminary lessons given them.
Resident Magistrate's Court.— No court was held yesterday, owing to Dr. Giles's absence at Mokihinui. On Friday, the charge of burglary against Robert Stevenson will be gone into. There are at present in Westport gaol eight men aAVaiting their trial at the District Court, and two under commitment to the Criminal Sittings of the Court at Nelson.
