Volunteer Movement. —In consequence of the arrival of the Simonsen Troupe, who performed last evening in the Assembly Rooms, the meeting for the formation of a Volunteer Corps was unavoidably postponed until this evening at eight o'clock. Great interest secmes excited about the matter, and no doubt the whole affair will be a success, and we hope that an efficient corps may be speedily formed. En"Choacilmekt oj? the Sea.—Some time back an article appeared in our evening contemporary stating that the sea had encroached so that several sections were nearly if not quite submerged, and that the holders of the land in Nelson, would search in vain for their land. In company with a Nelson friend we visited the sea beech yesterday, expecting to see a state of ruin unparalled on the Coast, but were agrcebly surprised to find that the sections in the vicinity of the sea were a long way out of reach of the water at present. General Holiday.—AVe notice in another part of this issue, a deputation which waited upon the Commissioner; in another column will be found an advertisement referring to the matter, and appointing a meeting, to be held immediately after the volunteer meeting 13 over, in the Assembly Room, to fix a clay best suited for the general holiday, in commemoration of the escape of His It. 11. the Duke of Edinburgh, and to appoint a committee to further the arrangements.
