GREYMOUTH ANNUAL RACES.

The Grey River Argus of the 19th gives the detailed account of the first two days racing, and reports that the attendance was good but the weather showery during the best part of both days. First Day—Tuesday The following are the principal races. Trial Stakes, of 40 sovs, open to all horses the property prior to the 13th of February of any bona fide resident in Westland. Weights for age. One mile and a half Entrance 4 sovs. Mr G Harrison's br g Kohler ... 1 MrD. Cameron's ch m Mockingßird 2 Packers' Purse, of 30 sovs., for horses that can be proved to have regularly packed on any part of the West Coast for not less than two months during the last six months. Welter weight for age. Heats, One mile. Entrance 2 sovs. Mr J. Molloy's gm Annetta ... 1 Town Plate, of 50 sovs., open to all horses. Weight for age. Two miles. Entrance 5 sovs. Mr Geo. Harrison's br g Kohler 1 Mr D. Cameron's ch m Mocking Bird 2 Butchers' Purse, of 30 sovs., for horses the bona fide property prior to Ist of Feb., of retail butchers on the West Coast. Weight for age. The winner or second in the Trial Stakes or Town Plate to carry respectively a penalty of 71bs and 31bs. One mile and a distance. Entrance 3 sovs. Mr C. Mullins' ch g Stockings ... 1 Jones and Co.'s bg Deerfoot ... 2 These were the only two horses that ran in this race. Stockings won easily. Hurdle Race, of 50 sovs., open to all horses. Weight for age. Heats ; one mile and a half. Entrance 5 sovs. Mr W. M'Cloughlin's br m Maori Girl 1 Mr A. Dyson's b g Brown Stout 2 Mr J. Day's ch g Lord Lyons ... 3 Hack Race, of 10 sovs., open to all horses. One mile. Entrance, 1 sov. added. Post entry. Mr Comiskey's brg Waimea ... 1 The race was well run, Mr Comiskey's animal being just suited for a one mile gallop. It would take a very good horse to lick Wainiea in a short race. Second Day—Wednesday. Greymouth Handicap, of 125 sovs., open to all horses. Two miles and a quarter; the second horse to have his full entrance money re turned. Mr J. Day's ch m Policy ... 1 Mr D. Cameron's ch m Mocking Bird 2 Cobden Plate, of 30 sovs., under the same conditions as the Trial Stakes; But the winner of that race to cairy 71bs penalty, and the second horse 31bs. Heats, one mile and a quarter. Entrance, 3 sovs. Mr G. Harrison's br g Kohler ... 1 Mr Arkell's c m Eed Rose ... 2 Mr W. L.
